STAGE 1 - do you know The Knowledge off by heart?

YES - go to STAGE 2.

NO - self-test yourself using this blank version and then check using the answers. Repeat this every two days until you know it.

STAGE 2 - do you know which topics are your weaknesses?

YES - go to STAGE 3.

NO - skip to STAGE 5.

STAGE 3 - are you confident enough with your weaknesses to be able to attempt questions?

YES - go to STAGE 4.

NO (only if you really don't know what is going on with a method or topic) - either work through the examples on this topic in your notes, or work through questions using the videos from TLMaths or Integral (DO NOT just watch the video - actively pause the video, try the next step, and then see what they do - only watching will not help your memory effectively).

STAGE 4 - practice your weaknesses

The best ways to practice specific topics are:

  • The Integral Topic Assessments - feel free to message me to ask for the solutions if you don't have them and I'll send them through.
  • Past paper questions by topic (with mark schemes) for SINGLE and FURTHER.
  • The topic booklets at MadasMaths - these can be hard but are particularly good for a mix of integration.

STAGE 5 - work through past papers

Of course, past papers are a key source of practice and you should do as many as possible - this should be done without notes, and certainly without looking at the mark scheme whenever you get stuck. When possible, do it in timed conditions, but don't let this stop you working through as much as you can at other times as well. You can find a huge selection of current specification past papers in This Google Drive.

Once you have worked through a paper you should mark it, make corrections, identify your weaknesses, and then go back to STAGE 4.

I have put together a breakdown of the various papers available below.

PAST PAPERS BREAKDOWN

Single Maths Past Papers

MEI Papers (our specification):

  • Before you sit your A Levels you should have worked through every MEI paper (12 sets of 3 papers = 72 hours).
  • Save the 2022, 2023 and 2024 papers until nearer the time, but start ticking off the rest.
  • Keep your work organised somewhere so you can keep track and show me if I set one as homework that you have already done.
  • The "pre-release data" for some of the Statistics questions in on a 3-year cycle - if you come across questions not using our data set (our data set is about countries, health data, workforce etc.) then you may wish to ignore the question.

Other boards:

  • The specifications for all boards are almost identical. Work through any papers you wish - they will still provide great practice even if the style can be slightly different.
  • I would recommend OCR first - this will give another 72 hours of papers to work on! Just be aware that they use a slightly different definition of standard deviation so don't worry if you get a slightly different answer from the mark scheme on these questions.

Further Maths - Core Pure

MEI Papers (our specification):

  • Before you sit your A Levels you should have worked through every MEI paper (10 x two hour 40 minute papers = almost 27 hours + 3 "alternative papers").
  • Save the 2022, 2023 and 2024 papers until nearer the time, but start ticking off the rest.

Other boards:

  • Both OCR and Edexcel seem to have almost identical specifications for Core Pure so this triples the amount of papers available - do as many of these as possible.

Further Maths - Mech Minor, Mech Major, and Extra Pure

I have separate pages for these at Mech Minor, Mech Major, and Extra Pure.
