Resources for Mechanics Major

The following should be your priorities for your Mechanics Major revision.

Number 1 - Mech Major Knowledge

I have created a version of The Knowledge for Mech Major: The Knowledge and Answers

Number 2 - Current Specification Past Papers

There are nine current specification MEI past papers so you should space these to not run out of them. You should do all of these before the exam. You can find them in This Google Drive.

IN ADDITION, there are "Mech a" and "Mech b" papers - the "Mech a" papers cover the Mech Minor material, and the "Mech b" papers cover everything else, so you can effectively create extra Mech Major papers by merging these. You can find them in the same Google Drive. There are of course also the usual MEI Mech Minor papers, providing more practice on that material.

From other specifications, the OCR Further Mechanics and the AQA Further Mechanics should provide excellent practice - as far as I can tell you can do all of the AQA papers and over 95% of the OCR papers.

Number 3 - Integral Topic Tests

Most of the Integral resources are readily available to you, but I have put the Topic Assessments with the solutions in the Classwork section of Teams (the Mech Minor topics are in the Mech Minor teams). These are a good challenge and allow you to really attack specific topics.

Number 4 - Past Paper Packs

I have made some Past Paper Packs using pre-2005 papers - these cover everything except for couples:

  • Mech Minor Pack 1 and Mark Scheme
  • Mech Minor Pack 2 and Mark Scheme
  • Mech Major Pack 1 and Mark Scheme
  • Number 5 - ALevelMathsRevision.com

This website does not cover every topic, but does have the vast majority. You should click on the "OCR MEI Optional Units" option.

    Number 6 - Madas Maths

As usual, MadasMaths has a tonne of questions for several topics and each sheet has full worked solutions.

  • Direct Collisions
  • Oblique Collisions
  • Moments 1 - perpendicular forces and Moments 2 - ladders
  • Work and Energy and Power
  • Centre of Mass
  • Centre of Mass with Calculus
  • Motion under a Variable Force
  • Modelling Oscillations
  • Circular Motion
  • Hooke's Law
